Carmela Ice Cream Information

Tucked along North Palm Canyon Drive, Carmela Ice Cream at Carmela Ice Cream feels like the kind of place you stumble into once and keep coming back to every time you’re in Palm Springs. The location itself is hard to beat-right in the middle of a lively stretch filled with boutiques and cafes-so it naturally draws in both locals and tourists looking for something refreshing in the desert heat.

Walking in, the atmosphere is simple but inviting, with a clean, modern look that keeps the focus squarely on the menu. And that menu is where things get interesting. Instead of the usual lineup of generic flavors, you’ll find small-batch ice creams made with seasonal ingredients and a noticeable attention to detail. On one visit, the roasted strawberry buttermilk had a tangy richness that tasted like actual fruit rather than syrup, while the brown sugar vanilla managed to be both familiar and surprisingly deep in flavor.

The staff behind the counter tend to be friendly and patient, which matters when you’re staring at a menu full of flavors you don’t recognize and want to sample half of them. They’re quick to offer suggestions, and it feels like they genuinely know their product rather than just scooping and moving on. That kind of service adds a lot to the overall experience, especially in a place that can get busy during peak hours.

Portion sizes are reasonable, and while prices lean a bit higher than your average ice cream shop, the quality justifies it. Everything tastes fresh, and you can tell the ingredients aren’t cutting corners. It’s the kind of spot where one scoop is satisfying, but you’ll probably wish you had ordered two.

Reviews online tend to echo this same sentiment-consistent praise for unique flavors, high-quality ingredients, and a reliable experience. If there’s any downside, it’s that seating can be limited, so you might find yourself enjoying your cone while walking the strip instead of settling in.

There’s something distinctly local about the whole experience, from the curated menu to the laid-back vibe, making it feel less like a chain stop and more like a Palm Springs staple that happens to serve exceptional ice cream.

What People's Say About Place

Yum. Four of us all enjoyed each of our different selection. Salted Carmel was delicious. Staff was super sweet and chill. Location adorable, little spots to shop in and a coffee house next door.

Hey folks .. there's a new ice cream shop in Palm Springs town . Introducing CARMELA Located indoor at the Cafe Le Jefe building. There you go, have an ice cream and finish off with some coffee or vice-versa, and peruse the cool little boutique indoor shops. Such a cool space to explore, during the heat of summer in the desert.

Carmela is an adorable ice cream shop inside Flannery Exchange, with a dozen flavors, but I highly recommend the chocolate with cocoa nibs! I absolutely love that they make their own waffle cones and you can even order a waffle cup. There's seating outside and it's on the main road of Palm Canyon, so you can relax and walk to other points of interest.

Great ice cream! Super vibey in a cute little shopping center, great third space. Also the woman with the cool nails at the counter was super sweet.

Yummy small batch quality ice cream! Some unique flavors too like Avocado and Honey Lavender.

Carmela Ice Cream is hands down my favorite! I discovered Carmela when I lived in LA and was quickly hooked onto their Salted Caramel, Lavender Honey and Strawberry Buttermilk flavors. I missed them terribly when I moved out to CO and was SO happy to discover their new location in Palm Springs when I on vacation there last month! Needless to say, I hit them up more than once to get my fix! The ice cream sandwiches are fab too and don't leave without a package of house made marshmallows! If you need a perfectly sweet and cooling treat while in Palm Springs, Carmela is a must! (P.S- they cater too!)

Absolutely love Flannery Exchange and specially because Caramela Ice Cream is there! The lavender honey flavor was AMAZING! Would defiantly come again and recommend. Also take your time to walk around the space and see all the cute shops!

Small, artisan ice cream shop. The selection was minimal, but everyone in our group found something they loved, including kids from 9-15 years old and two people who eat dairy free. The server was lovely.
